Although Google, with its AdWords advertising, is the current undisputed king of online advertising – many New Jersey ad agencies (including my own Mary Pomerantz Advertising) are increasingly intrigued by Facebook’s online advertising potential.
So, what is it about Facebook’s online advertising that has New Jersey ad agencies so interested? In a word, it’s the concept of “liking” a company, product, or service. “Liking” changes the power dynamic of online advertising from a top-down model where companies tout their products or services as the best to one where your own friends (whose judgment you presumably trust more than a stranger’s) tell you that they “like” what a company is selling.
It’s advertising with an instant presumption of credibility. And, in today’s media and advertising saturated world, that is a very valuable commodity. So, are New Jersey ad agencies dropping Google AdWords and moving over to Facebook en masse? No, of course they aren’t – as Google still has the broadest reach of any online platform. But, those of us who are paying attention to the trends are certainly adding a healthy dose of Facebook advertising to our online advertising mix.
